FOR ADOPTION – AMBER – SOUTHAMPTON
AMBER IS LOOKING FOR A HOME WITH EXPERIENCE OF NERVOUS DOGS 🙏
Amber is a mixed breed, nearly two years old. She is affectionate, curious, and full of character, with so much to give if you are willing to give her time and understanding. Once settled she is excited to see you and will ask for fuss using her paw.
She is an active young dog and loves her walks if she isn’t overwhelmed. She enjoys exploring woodland, running around open fields, and sniffing for who’s been before her. When off lead she checks in regularly and doesn’t stray too far.
Amber is still learning how to greet other dogs calmly. She struggles with a combination of excitement and nerves which means she will often run up to other dogs then retreat or lunge on the lead, sometimes with a growl. She has made brilliant progress with this using positive training. She makes better choices every day and can now disengage from most dogs when asked. Her new adopter must be willing to continue this training with her. Access to walks in rural or open spaces would be ideal; she is not suited to living in busy urban areas. Phoenix and her current fosterer will provide support and advice with this.
She does have her safe place and chooses to stay there most of the time, except for mealtimes and walks. In her foster home this is on the sofa. After a couple of months, she has started to spend more time on the floor tossing toys around or playing. Amber has lived with multiple different dogs with no issues and loves chasing round with friends in a field. She will benefit from either living with another established dog or regular playdates with dogs she knows to use up some of her energy.
She is very wary of strangers, so needs a home where visitors can be slowly introduced or be in a different room to her. She has never nipped/bitten; she just keeps her distance.
Fully house trained.
